| Past Efforts of the Blue Coalition trying to get Dr. King on American Money |
| Ever since the late 90's Christopher J. Wauben President of the Blue Coalition has been trying to get Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the face of American currency. In Early 2002 Chris made it a Blue Coalition project and had a petition on the website for people to show their support of having Dr. King on One Dollar Gold Coin. He set up an opening ceremony on Liberty Island for August 17th 2002 which no one showed up at. He wrote to various elected officials, but only recieved emails from both Bill Clinton's Office and George Pataki's office both stating that they support our efforts. He sent petitions to many people. The only one who sent one back signed was Peter Seeger of the Clear Water Revival/Beacon Sloop Club. Ironically in 2003 NY Senator Rangler put the 'Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Coin Act' on the floor of the Senate. So we at Blue Coalition of course support it and are doing are part to make sure the bill passes by having people sign the petition of which we will forward copies of to the Congress and Senate. Below is an article from 1998 when Christopher J. Wauben first pushed the idea. Also below is graphic made by his Father Mark Wauben for his "Dr. King on a Coin Campaign". |
